PLANT DESCRIPTION
A small annual herb grows up to 1 meter in height. Leaves simple, long, narrow, acute, pubescent, scrubby surfaces. Flowers spikelets, in terminal panicles. Lemma and palea surrounds the kernel is golden yellow, and straw colored when ripe. Grains are oblong, in lemma and palea. Roots are fibrous arises from the swollen nodes.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, pitta, urinary retention, diarrhea, colic and general weakness. It is a staple food for most of the Indians.
