PLANT DISTRIBUTION
Native to Moluccas, cultivated in Indonesia, also in India
PLANT DESCRIPTION
A slender aromatic climber rooting at the nodes, the branches are erect, swollen at the nodes. Leaves are alternate, ovate-lanceolate, entire, smooth, thin with reticulate venation; veins raised beneath. Flowers in solitary spikes, fruits are berries, small red when ripe. The mature spikes when dried is called Hasthipippali. In some parts of India roots of this plant is used as Chavika
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, lumbar pain, arthritis, dyspepsia, hemorrhoids, colic, gastritis, asthma, bronchitis, fever, etc. it has aphrodisiac property.
Useful part    :    Dried spikes, Root.
