PLANT DESCRIPTION
A small, perennial herbaceous plant grows up to 1.5 meters in height. Leaves simple, alternate, long lanceolate, acuminate. Flowes seen in clusters in apical spikes, reddish white and small. Fruits are single, oval bearing small and gray colored seeds.  
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated pitta, inflammation, cough, asthma, pneumonia, abdominal colic, intestinal worms, muscular spasm and liver and spleen diseases.  
Useful part    :    Whole plant.
CHEMICAL CONTENTS
The leaves contain flavonoids— quercetin, rhamnetin, quercitrin, avicularin and rutin. Flowers contain pigments, delphinidin-3,5-diglucoside and cyanidin-3,5-diglucoside and quercetin. The methanolic aqueous extract of the leaf gave a pure anthelmintic substance, a terpenoid (PGA). (The herb is used as an anthelmintic in Sudan.)
