PLANT DESCRIPTION
A medium sized glabrous evergreen tree grows up to 20 m in height. Leaves simple, alternate, elliptic-obovate or oblong, rounded and glabrous on both sides. Flowers white or pale yellow, axillary, solitary or in fascicles: fruits one seeded reddish yellow berries, ovoid or ellipsoid, seeds ovoid, reddish brown.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Bark pacifies vitiated kapha, pitta, fever, flatulence, colic, dyspepsia, worm infestation, burning sensation. It retards the fermentation process in toddy.
The fruits are milky, sweet, sour, cooling, aphrodisiac, appetiser, emollient and tonic. Fruit pacifies vitiated pitta, vata, consumption, hallucinations, loss of consciousness, anorexia, bronchitis, ulcers and the opacity of the cornea.

CHEMICAL CONTENTS
All parts gave taraxerol, a triterpene ketone, alpha-and beta-amyrin, cinnamates, alpha-sipnasterol, beta-sitosterol, its beta-D-glucoside, quercitol, quercetin and its dihydroderivatives, ursolic acid. The bark contains 10% tannin.
