PLANT DESCRIPTION
A small erect annual herb grows up to 30 cm in height: leaves simple, opposite, very variable in shape, sessile, ovate, oblong or lanceolate-oblong, obtuse or subacute, clothed with stiff hairs, arising from tubercles. Flowers pale blue to pink or white on drooping axillary stalks, sometimes in terminal few-flowered cymes. Fruits pyramidal 4-ribbed nutlets, smooth on the outer, rugose, bearing small laterally compressed seeds.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata and kapha, arthralgia, inflammations, dyspepsia, diarrhea, dysentery, leprosy, skin diseases, eye diseases, expulsion of the fetus, dysmenorrheal, sores and fever. Herb—Diuretic, emollient, febrifuge. Leaves are depurative. Roots are anti-inflammatory, astringent, antidysenteric. Pounded and applied to swelling of joints. Flowers sudorific and pectoral.

CHEMICAL CONTENTS
The seeds gave linoleic, linolenic, oleic, palmitic and stearic acids. Hexacosane, hethylhexacosanoate, 21,24 hexacosadienoic acid ethylester have been isolated from the leaves.
Dosage - Root- 5-10 g paste. (CCRAS.)
