Distribution : Throughout the warmer moist places in India. 
PLANT DESCRIPTION
A small sized tree grows up to 5 meters in height. Leaves simple, cordate, acuminate, both surface pubescent and long petiolate. Flowers arises from axilla or from terminal spikes. Fruits hard,  greenish yellow pods, which is the staple food of Indian Rhinoceros.
MEDICINAL PROPERTIES
Plant pacifies vitiated vata, pitta, inflammation, flatulence, malignancy especially leukemia, arthritis and hepato - biliary affections.
Useful part    :    Leaf, Bark, Root.
CHEMICAL CONTENTS
Plant contains a pyridine alkaloid, N-methyl-5-carboxamide-2-pyridone. Leaves contain an alkaloid, nudiflorine. Bark yields taraxerone and betasitosterol. Seeds contain an alkaloid ricinidine. The seeds also contain a maytansinoid compound, trewiasine (TWS). It exhibited significant cytotoxic activity against various human cell lines in vitro. The charcoal made from the wood is rich in potassium (21.16%). Trewia polycarpa Benth. ex Hook. f. (Western Ghats, Konkan and Kerala) is also a related species of Tumri.
